CHARITY
CHRISTIANITY OASIS
HAS PROVIDED YOU WITH THIS CHARITY STUDY. CHARITY IS A
WORD USED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT. PAUL TELLS US THAT CHARITY
IS A VERY IMPORTANT INGREDIENT ON OUR CHRISTIAN WALK. LET US
SEEK AND FIND THE TRUTH OF CHARITY TOGETHER, SHALL WE?
Paul shares
with us the TRUTH of CHARITY ...

1 Corinthians 12:28-31
And God hath set some in the church, first apostles,
secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that
miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments,
diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all
prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of
miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak
with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly
the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more
excellent way.

There ARE different
positions ... PARTS of the Body of Christ and different
administrations. There are lots of different Spiritual Gifts
one receives to perform these positions. Paul says we are to
strive to obtain the best gifts ...BUT ... Paul closed that
Chapter with these words:
"And
YET shew I unto you a more excellent way"
Wow ...
A more EXCELLENT way ...
Let's check it out.

Corinthians 13:1-3
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels,
and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass,
or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of
prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all
knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I
could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am
nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the
poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have
not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Paul made it clear
that even tho we possess the ability to use the Spiritual
Gifts in our administration that for them to be used without
CHARITY ... It is as nothing.
So we MUST have this CHARITY. It seem pretty darn important
for us to know what CHARITY is tho.
Some say it is the passion to help others or a willingness
to sacrifice self for others. That is NOT what he is
referring to. This is proven when he says:
And though
I bestow all my
goods to feed the poor, and though
I give my body to
be burned,
and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
He said if one gives all they have to the poor and/or
sacrifices their body but has not Charity, it is a useless
action. Many give to the poor to be seen of man so tho they
gave for selfish gain and God knows the heart of man ... It
is vanity. Many torture their body for various reasons but
unless it was done in CHARITY ... It was vanity.
So again, what is CHARITY ...
Most say ... CHARITY is LOVE. The word Love was used in the
Bible, why did Paul not just say LOVE? I mean ... He uses
the word "Love" MANY times in His Epistles.
Did you know that the word CHARITY was never used in Old
Testament? (KJV ... Many have translated the word Charity to
Love in the newer versions of the Bible)
Since we really need to obtain this CHARITY to make our
Spiritual gifts effective, let's explore a lil more ...
Paul also shares this ...

1 Timothy 1:5
Now the end
of the commandment is CHARITY out of a pure
heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith
unfeigned: |

Colossians 3:14
And above all these things put on CHARITY, which is
the bond of perfectness. |
Peter shares this with
us ...
|
2 Peter 1:5-7
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your
faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to
knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and
to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly
kindness; and to brotherly kindness ... CHARITY. |

1 Peter 4:8
And above all things have fervent CHARITY among
yourselves:
for CHARITY shall cover the multitude of sins.
|
This CHARITY is
some powerful stuff ...
We can tell by Paul's words in 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 that
it is not WHAT YOU DO ... But WHY. The Spiritual gifts must
be used in CHARITY.
So what is CHARITY if not LOVE?
Is there not a SELFISH Love? One that is possessed and
expressed for SELF gain? Maybe this is why Paul used the
word ... CHARITY rather than Love.
Perhaps we have been asking the wrong question. It appears
that it is not what Charity IS but rather what it DOES ...
As it is not a NOUN ... It is a VERB.
Here is what CHARITY ... DOES:

1 Corinthians 13:4-10
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth
not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own,
is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth
not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth
all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things,
endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but
whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether
there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be
knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part,
and we prophesy in part. But when that which is
perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be
done away.

CHARITY is the epitome
of perfect Christian Love.
An unconditional love for others
which has absolutely no gain to self.
Find yourself DOING this ... And you have found CHARITY.
